Computational Power of Nations as a Measure of Prosperity.
I have an incling that we should start measuring the computational power of different Nations to measure how much of an impact they have in the future.
When I say nations I mean anyone within a system. The idea of a nation is a very outdated concept but I think it could be useful as a description for anything that people contribute their computation power towards. IE, Currency, Hiveminds,
We could measure the computational power of the Euro, Dollar and the Yuan and maybe predict what impact they will have on the future. Unfortunately it is not as simple as that, as it is very hard to find a definitive list of the different computational powers of each economy.
Problems
I need to work out how often a computer is used. Is it processing 24/7?
How many humans are doing jobs that use the majority of their processing power. Does this even matter? Does a brick layer use the same amount of processing as an accountant? This needs to be qualifited, even more so in the eyes of china, india, and their lower socio-economic population.Computation contributing to different systems.
We cant know where the computational power is going. Hiveminds make the real problem here as they are above the current systems and are forming their own with the left over processing. This needs to be quantified before anything can be said about a Hivemind becoming a force.
These are the only problems I can see at the moment. I am sure there are more.
I would really love to do a detailed study on this. I feel this is a damn near perfect way of predicting where future power will be held.
